Joyce Beck, Director
Joyce is a certified member of Dance Masters of America and The South Texas Association
of Dance Teachers, Inc. She has trained locally with Suzanne Banbury and the The
Houston Ballet Academy. She continues her training by attending classes in New York
City and with Dance Master of America Ballet Intensives and National conventions,
as well as numerous other dance conventions and master classes. Ms Joyce has been
directing and operating the Dancescape by Joyce Studio at 2014 East Broadway in Pearland
for the past 21 years and previously had a school in Friendswood for 10 years. In
addition she operates and directs the school at 1906 Country Place Parkway which
opened in the fall of 2004.
Keith Cross, nationally acclaimed teacher & choreographer, will again be teaching
his inspiring styles of dance at Dancescape. He believes great dancing is a blend
of good training in all the elements of dance. Together ballet, modern, and jazz
dance training has helped him to create a new and fresh way of utilizing choreography.
Keith is the Founder of Teundu Inc., Artistic director of Texas Dance Theatre, and
Master teacher for Cross Jazz Tours. His television credits include Houston Grand
Opera's "Temonisa" and NBC Chicago Emmies. He has worked with such talents as Debbie
Allen, Maurice Hines, James Brown, and Gus Giordano. He was named one of Houston’s
Movers and Shakers of 2011.
Shannon Doerr Shannon is in her third year of teaching for Dancescape by Joyce. She holds a Bachelor in Fine Arts in Dance from Sam Houston State University. Before college, Shannon trained with Ballet Forte in Sugarland. In addition, she has choreographed for performances at Sam Houston State University, Christ United Methodist Church in Sugarland, Ashford United Methodist Church in Houston, and Dancescape by Joyce.
Renee teaches 3-4-year-old combo classes and 5-7-year-old combo classes and is looking
forward to another exciting year with these young dancers.
Maddie teaching at Dancescape in 2014 after having been an assistant dance teacher for several years. She has been a student at Dancescape for twelve years and has danced competitively for four years. She has participated in numerous dance productions, including playing Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins, Lilac Fairy in Sleeping Beauty and Queen Elinor in Princess Merida the Brave. She also participated in Scottish dance for eight years. Maddie is currently a dance major at the High School for Performing and Visual Arts in Houston. She is the 2017 title holder for Miss Dance Texas for Dance Masters of America.
Elyse has been with Dancescape by Joyce since 1993, both as a student and teacher.
After graduating from
Pearland High School, she was a member and line officer of the Texas State University
Strutters and member
of Orchesis Dance Company. She has had many dance opportunities including performances
teaching a clinic in Chile, and being a finalist for Houston Rockets Power Dancers.
She is currently a teacher
and dance director for Alvin ISD and acro jazz and competitive artist choreographer
for Dancescape by Joyce.
Shanette Thorpe Shanette graduated from Alvin High School and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance from Sam Houston State University. She has taught for Dancescape since 2007.
Melissa Rosas of Pearland, Texas, has returned to Dancescape by Joyce. She was a
student at the studio for 15 years and a teacher for two. She graduated from Pearland
High School in 2006 and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance from Sam Houston
State University in December 2010. Melissa danced professionally for Noblemotion
Dance for two years. During that time, the company performed in New York, Houston,
Austin, Huntsville, and Salt Lake City, Utah. She has studied the ancient work of
Michio Ito from his original students in Salt Lake City. Melissa has been fortunate
to return to her hometown and pick up what she loves most, teaching the students.
Elizabeth Collier Elizabeth trained at Dancescape By Joyce from 1996 to 2011. She graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance Education. She currently holds a K-12 Teaching Certificate and recently became a member of Dance Masters of America. Her training includes ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, modern and lyrical. She performed in various shows throughout college and in the Oklahoma Contemporary Dance Festival. She has been teaching for seven years and most recently completed an internship in entertainment at The Walt Disney World Resort. Ms. Elizabeth is very excited to be back home helping students develop their technique and love of dance
Rupert Edwards III was trained at The School of Hartford Ballet and has performed
with Hartford Ballet, American Repertory Ballet, Boston Ballet, and Tulsa Ballet
and most recently the Houston Ballet in 2010. Since joining the company, he has performed
in works such as Stanton Welch’s Swan Lake, Madame Butterfly, Giselle, and Romeo
and Juliet; Ronald Hynd’s The Merry Widow; David Bintley’s Aladdin; Trey McIntyre’s
Peter Pan; Ben Stevenson’s The Nutcracker and The Sleeping Beauty; John Cranko’s
The Taming of the Shrew; John Neumeier’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Mr. Edwards
was also created on in the world premiere of Edwaard Liang’s Murmuration. He has
joined Dancescape as an instructor for Advanced Ballet in 2016.
Billye Evans Billye Evans is retired from the Houston Independent School District, where she taught classroom music, choir, piano lab, and English handbells. Her degree is in Music Education with an emphasis in Piano. She has taught private piano lessons for many years.
Paul Panzarella Paul Panzarella has taught drum set for Dancescape for ten years. He is also the martial arts teacher for the studios.
Ryan currently has over 15 years of musical performance as well as 10 years of teaching
experience. He began as a self-taught guitarist who learned through many experiences
playing at local churches and restaurants. He went on to refine his skills when he
studied classical and flamenco guitar with the very talented Jeremy Garcia, a well-known
flamenco guitarist and professor at San Jacinto College. While at San Jacinto College,
Ryan obtained a very in depth understanding of music theory as well as a strong advancement
in musical techniques in guitar and violin. Upon obtaining a degree in music Ryan
then ventured to study under the world renowned guitarist Rusty Cooley, who is the
master of electric and modern guitar technique. With such a well-rounded history
of classical and modern skills, Ryan is very confident in helping others obtaining
their musical goals. Whether you want to learn classical, country, jazz, blues, rock,
or metal, he is the instructor to help get you to where you want to be.
I hold a Bachelor's degree from Westminster Choir College of Rider University, and
a Master's degree from University of Houston, both in applied music. I have taught
piano lessons since junior year of college, and this is my third year teaching at
Julie has been teaching for Dancescape by Joyce since 2010, and she was a
student at Dancescape from 1999 to 2014. She participated in many dance
productions, including playing Swanilda’s sister in Coppelia and Snow White in
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Julie danced competitively from 2007 to
2014, and she is a Dance Masters of America Junior Member. She is currently
a student at the University of Houston.
Kelly danced with Dancescape by Joyce from the age of 4 until she graduated
from high school. After graduation, she studied theater and dance at Sam
Houston State University; during her studies there, she interned at Disneyland.
Kelly has performed in numerous musicals and dance productions, including
playing the wicked witch in a musical production of The Wizard of Oz and
Queen Aggravaine in a dance production of The Princess and the Pea. She
also performs improvisational comedy with Station Theater.
Shelley Jennings Naiser
Shelley began dancing at the age of two and has studied under Lorna Badon Knaus,
Glenda Menard and Allyson Meche. She was a member of the Orange Jazz Company, the
Lake Area Jazz Company and Team 3:16 Praise Dance Team. She was the Captain of the
Cowgirl Kickers dance team at McNeese State University (’99). Her instructor and
choreographer credits include Dance Instructor of Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz and Lyrical
at Dance Arts Studio in Lake Charles, LA, Director of Petite Jazz Company competitive
group at Dance Arts Studio, Choreographer for the Louisiana High School All State
Dance and Cheer Team, and AssistantDirector/Choreographer of the MSU Cowgirl Kickers.
In addition, Ms. Shelley danced professionally for the Lake Charles Ice Pirates WPHL
hockey team and for the Lake Charles Landsharks arena football team. Shelley enjoys
teaching Beginning Lyrical, 3-4 year old Ballet/Tap/Acro and Cardio Dance classes
