Classical Indian Dance Technique (Bharatanatyam)
Dates: July 24 - August 4, 2017
Classes meet Monday through Friday, 10a.m. - 5p.m.
Sack lunch will need to be brought daily. Lunch (pizza) will be provided
on August 4, 2017.
Registration: January 2- June 1, 2017
Late Registration: June 2 - July 24, 2017 (25$ Late Fee)
Cost: $375 - 2 week session
$200 - 1 week Session
Ages: 8yrs old and up.
Ability Levels: Intermediate and Advanced dancers.
Mr. Keith Cross believes great dancing is a blend of good training in all the elements
of dance. Together ballet, modern and jazz dance training has helped him to create
a new and fresh way of utilizing choreography. Keith is the founder of Teundu Inc.,
Artistic director of Texas Dance Theater, and Master teacher for Cross Jazz Tours.
His television credits include Houston Grand Opera’s “Tremonisa” and NBC Chicago
Emmies. He has worked with such talents as Debbie Allen, Maurice Hines, James Brown
and Gus Giordano. He was named one of Houston’s Movers and Shakers of 2011.
Dr. Lavanya Rajagopalan is the founder and Artistic Director of Silambam Houston,
an academy of Indian classical arts in the Houston area, and of the Silambam Houston
Dance Company, a pre-professional company that aims to convey contemporary themes
through classical Indian art forms. Dr. Rajagopalan studied Bharatanatyam under the
tutelage of the legendary Sudharani Raghupathy. She has performed extensively and
to critical acclaim all over India and the US.
Friday, August 4, 2017
On Friday, August 4th we will present a showcase for family and friends. Dancers
will perform routines in various dance forms that have been taught throughout the
two week intensive.
Modern, Ballet & Jazz Classes
Instruction will be given in Modern, Ballet and Jazz. Students will be taught improvisation
techniques as well as dance history.
Classical Indian Dance Technique
Students will be exposed to the concept of gestures, storytelling, rhythm, flexibility,
strength and balance.
